The whole world watched and rooted for their own Ms. Universe 2011 candidates. No matter where they were in the world, they were glued to their TV sets to watch the beauty pageant unfold right before their eyes. Those who were at their offices were watching the pageant on the live streaming sites as São Paulo, Brazil became the venue where all the beauties from all over the world converged.
Credicard Hall, in São Paulo, Brazil witnessed how beautiful the women are and warm and supporting each of the candidates’ supporters well. Almost everybody carried their own flags with them and waving it whenever their Ms. Universe candidate was called. The supporters of our very own Ms. Shamcey Gurrea Supsup was not different.
Filipinos from all over the world supported and rooted for her and since the beginning of the beauty pageant, Shamcey has always a crowd favorite not only by Filipinos but by other beauty pageants watchers as well. This beautiful and intelligent girl from General Santos City carried herself really well from the beginning of the pageant until the end of the show.
During the first elimination, she was an obvious shoo-in for the Top 16. With the swimsuit competition, it was quite obvious that she will be surely on the top 10. When the Top 10 beautiful ladies of the Ms. Universe 2011 was announced, everybody knew that it would be close to impossible for Ms. Philippines not to be on the Top 5. And on the Top 5 she landed indeed!
The “major major” answer of former Bb. Pilipinas Universe 2010 and Ms. Universe 2010 4th runner-up Ms. Venus Raj was still fresh in the minds of everybody so when the Question and Answer portion came, Filipinos from all over prayed really hard that Shamcey will be able to give a good answer. Her question was “Would you change your religious belief for the person you love?” She answered in straight English “ If I had to change my religious beliefs, I would not marry the person I love because the first person that I love is God who created me and I have my faith, my principles and this is what makes me who I am and if that person loves me, (he) should love my God too“. She was the only candidate who answered without an interpreter. And it landed her the Ms. Universe 3rd runner-up title.
